Description
Atilano Giraldo, Producer
Castillo. Grown at 1560 masl.
Grown high in the western Andes near Génova, Quindío, this coffee comes from third-generation producer Atilano Giraldo. Atilano grew up working alongside his father and gradually expanded his family’s coffee farms, eventually acquiring Finca Palmichal from the Osorio family. Today, he not only leads on the farm but also serves as a senator representing his home region in Colombia’s parliament.
Palmichal spans 53 hectares and benefits from two harvests a year due to Quindío’s dual rainy seasons. Ripe cherry is processed at a nearby wet mill using a washed method, then dried and prepared for export at a facility in Armenia. Pulp from the process is repurposed as organic fertilizer, and water is filtered and recycled to reduce environmental impact.
On the farm, there are thoughtful programs in place to support women workers, including assigning groups to less steep areas and closer fields to reduce physical strain.
