Getting to La Bolsa is an eight hour adventure by car from Guatemala City into the mountains of Huehuetenango. When rainfall is high, streams and waterfalls run through the farm giving it a dense, rainforest feel. Dr. Jorge Vides Molina founded La Bolsa in 1958, and he was such an outstanding member of the local community that the hospital in the city of Huehuetenango bears his name. Today, his daughter Maria Elena and grandson Renardo manage the farm. Thanks to their tireless dedication, La Bolsa has gained acclaim through Cup of Excellence, Rainforest Alliance, and the International Women’s Coffee Alliance.
Water recycling and vermiculture composting are a large part of the farm’s success. A new greenhouse with raised drying beds is also available for special lots that demand more drying control than the patio. La Bolsa has an excellent reputation among coffee pickers, and some have been working there for over 25 years. Benefits for pickers include housing on-site and classes at the farm for their children to develop both practical and creative skills.

Our premium coffee beans are roasted daily at our Greenpoint, Brooklyn roastery. We ship only whole bean coffee and do not grind the beans prior to shipping. Coffee is packaged in sealed valve bags. We roast to order!
