Lower East Side

13 Essex Street | New York, NY 10002

Café Grumpy Lower East Side opened in the Spring of 2011. Come in for a coffee then sit and relax on one of our benches outside.

This store had quite a history in the neighborhood as it used to be home to Zelig Blumenthal’s Judaica shop. We exposed the original brick walls (even uncovering two previously hidden windows) and kept the colorful tile floor intact.

.The store is a small, shaded box with a pair of stools in front of the espresso machine…The shot I ordered, from the Yukro co-op in Ethiopia, was the espresso I had been looking for—bright, sweet, and clean—in the kind of coffee shop I had wanted to sit in all day.”
